| Abstract: | Eighty species of Diptera are newly recorded for Ireland in the families Sciaridae. Psychodidae. Hybotidae. Platypezidae. Lonchopteridae, Pipunculidae. Piophilidae. Lauxaniidae. Chamaemyiidae, Sepsidae. Agromyzidae, Opomyzidae, Tethinidae, Heleomyzidae. Drosophilidae. Ephydridae and Scathophagidae: this is one of a series of papers updating the Irish Diptera list preliminary to the preparation of a revised checklist of Irish Diptera. The following two species are deleted from the Irish list: Bradysia aprica (Winnertz) (Sciaridae), Norellisoma lituratum (Wiedemann in Meigen) (Scathophagidae). Phytoliriomyza pteridii Spencer (Agromyzidae), Norellisoma opacum (Loew) (Scathophagidae) and Helina maculipennis (Zetterstedt) (Muscidae) are reinstated to the Irish list. Lectotypes are designated for Pericoma ustulata Haliday in Walker and Trichomyia urbica Haliday in Walker (Psychodidae). Three species of Sciaridae (Bradysia leptoptera Tuomikoski. 1960: B. nocturna Tuomikoski. 1960; Leptosciarella cerifera Mohrig & Menzel. 1997) are newly recorded for the British Isles. Leptosciarella subspinulosa (Edwards) (Sciaridae) is restored to specific rank from synonymy under L. pilosa (Staeger): Irish and British records are presented for both species. |
